Hey everyone.

For the sake of transparency with the community, I'm here to inform you that the staff team is in the middle of an investigation regarding moderator PX, who was discovered to have made inappropriate comments during her time as a staff member. This has also called into question a few other users --- we will have more to say when all loose ends have been tied. We're still determining what this means for the future, but in the meantime, PX has been demoted and banned from the website. We ask for your patience in allowing us to work through this unprecedented situation.

Thank you, and please reach out to any active staff member with concerns.

Sorry it took so long to update you all on this, it has been very tiring.

I will give a factual summary of what happened without divulging too many details. If you only want to know the outcome: a) PX will stay banned for now and b) Ty will remain mod after we did an investigation and decided we expect no issues with that going forward.

The situation with PX involved a DM she had with Ty where PX made a very off-colour comment that warranted demoting her at minimum. We hastily banned her during the discussion, which set the tone for an unpleasant internal drama.

I spoke to PX for a while about the situation but didn't feel we could agree as to the seriousness of what she said. PX cut the conversation off before answering all my questions, which made me feel the status quo is for the better. We may revisit the situation later but for now, my view is ban as the most responsible choice. The recency of the DM made it difficult to give benefit of the doubt.

Some dirt on Ty was also brought up in the midst of this which showed them to have poor boundaries in the years prior to becoming editor in 2021. Had I known what I do know, I wouldn't have put their name up for promotion at the time. However, 3+ years have passed since the events in question and I'm satisfied Ty is responsible enough now to keep their staff role in 2024+, with some reservations that I have spoken to them about privately.

If you have concerns about the staff group that you think we're not reacting to, then please tell me or somebody else you'd rather talk to. We don't want to do this again but we will if it means people have confidence in the staff group.
